Description
TJFF participates in National Canadian Film Day with a forgotten gem.
Long out of circulation, True Confections is Gail Singer’s funny and touching adaptation of Sondra Gotlieb’s Stephen Leacock Award-winning novel about growing up Jewish in 1950s Winnipeg. Verna (Leslie Hope) is searching for herself and more importantly, for “Mr Right.” Burdened with wit and expectations beyond most of those around her, she struggles to fit into her conservative era, with all the possibilities of a new world just out of her grasp. Filled with loving detail of both the city and the Jewish community, and featuring a memorable supporting cast, True Confections deserves to rediscovered by a whole new audience.
Featuring an introduction and Q&A with filmmaker Gail Singer.
TJFF is grateful for the operational support it receives from the Ontario Arts Council which helps us continue to present engaging programming year-round.
