Description

Join us in honouring the Days of Awe with one of the most quietly soulful films of TJFF2024.

Moran Rosenblatt (Fauda, Kiss Me Kosher) stars as a feminist film producer from Tel Aviv facing severe financial debt. She reluctantly agrees to take on a project that involves resurrecting the career of ultra-Orthodox Rabbi Uzi Silver (Rami Heuberger, Golda and Schindler’s List), a legendary film figure that abandoned his secular lifestyle to fully embrace religion. He aspires to reenter the world of cinema by adapting the biblical epic tale of King Saul with an all-male film crew. Taking the real-life story of Israeli film legend Uri Zohar as a starting point, director and writer Eitan Anner (A Quiet Heart) offers a probing character study and captivating moral tale about art and compromise.

Includes a video introduction from director Eitan Anner.

Featuring an introduction and post-screening discussion lead by Rabbi Lawrence Englander.

Rabbi Lawrence A. Englander is the founding Rabbi of Solel Congregation, Mississauga, serving there since its inception in 1973 until his retirement in June 2014; he now serves Solel as Rabbi Emeritus.  He is also Adjunct Rabbi at Temple Sinai in Toronto. In 2005 he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in the community.
