Description

Official Selection, Hot Docs Film Festival 2021

Celebrated Toronto playwright and filmmaker Jason Sherman goes to Israel to search for the tree that was planted there in his name on the occasion of his bar mitzvah at Toronto’s Beth Tikvah Synagogue forty years ago. His travels take him to parks and forests throughout the country, and what begins with a simple objective leads to some complex and surprising discoveries revolving around a conservation area called Canada Park. In his thoughtful personal documentary, Sherman speaks to a cross-section of voices as he tries to figure out what to do about his findings, and how it affects his connection to Israel.

“Sherman wisely never succumbs to polemic or screed. He instead lets his participants share their views on these complicated and intertwined subjects to invite an open conversation…It’s a film that above all highlights the need to listen and to engage.” (POV Magazine)
