Description

To honour the time of year between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, TJFF is proud to offer a special screening of an acclaimed Israeli drama.

From the co-creator of Shtisel comes an intimate and touching exploration of lives at the fringes of Bnei Brak’s ultra-Orthodox community. Nahman Ruzumni (Moshe Folkenflik, Redemption) makes his living by driving beggars to affluent homes, and coaching them on how to spin their tales of woe in a way that inspires philanthropy. He then takes a cut of the money, and keeps a record of their stories. When his wife suddenly leaves, he is faced with the responsibility of taking care of his nine-year-old daughter alone.

Special Guest: Rabbi Lawrence Englander  will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterward.

Rabbi Lawrence A. Englander is the founding Rabbi of Solel Congregation, Mississauga, serving there since its inception in 1973 until his retirement in June 2014; he now serves Solel as Rabbi Emeritus.  He is also Adjunct Rabbi at Temple Sinai in Toronto. In 2005 he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in the community.
