Description

“Delightful, deceptively provocative, people should see it.” (Montreal Gazette)

Long out of circulation, True Confections is Gail Singer’s funny and touching adaptation of Sondra Gotlieb’s Stephen Leacock Award-winning novel about growing up Jewish in 1950s Winnipeg. Verna (Leslie Hope) is searching for herself and more importantly, for “Mr Right.” Burdened with wit and expectations beyond most of those around her, she struggles to fit into her conservative era, with all the possibilities of a new world just out of her grasp. Filled with loving detail of both the city and the Jewish community, and featuring a memorable supporting cast--such as future filmmaker Jill Riley, Chandra West and Doreen Brownstone--True Confections deserves to rediscovered by a whole new audience.

Film accompanied by Jill Riley's short comedy, Princess of Selkirk Avenue.
