Description

Venice—famed for its architecture, art and canals—is also the place where, 500 years ago, the Jewish Community was forced to live in the city’s ghetto.  Seen through the eyes of a young man discovering his family’s past, this film reconstructs the history of Europe’s oldest ghetto: the shifting relations between the Jewish Community and various city governments, the tensions and connections between Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews, and the progression from separation to integration for Venetian Jews.  A compelling and informative recounting of an important part of Jewish history.
