TJFF2025 honours the work of internationally-celebrated actor Sasson Gabay (The Band’s Visit, Shtisel, Gett). From Iraqi-Jewish roots, he has performed in Hebrew, Arabic, Yiddish, English and French across film, television and theatre. In this 5-part screening series, we will present his latest collaboration with filmmaker Shemi Zarhin and actor Assi Levy; the new spin-off from Shtisel; some rarely-screened early television work; a special moderated discussion with clips covering the breadth of his career; and a carte-blanche programme with the actor reflecting on his heritage.

Join actor Sasson Gabay as he reflects on a body of work now spanning five decades, with clips and anecdotes highlighting the breadth of his career—from his most iconic roles in The Band’s Visit (both on screen and on Broadway), Shtisel and Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem to his turns playing such historical figures as Shimon Peres, Anwar Sadat and Rudolf Kastner. From Iraqi-Jewish roots, he has performed internationally in Hebrew, Arabic, Yiddish, English and French across film, television and theatre; his body of work reflects the complexity of the international Jewish experience.
