THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED
After decades of realist dramas and ethnic comedies, Israeli cinema discovered horror. Dozens of films have come out in just the last few years. This development is the subject of Olga Gershenson’s new book that she is writing based on archival research and in-depth interviews with the filmmakers. In this talk, Prof. Gershenson will paint a vivid portrait of the current thriving scene. She will examine the cultural meanings of the horror genre in Israel and ask what these films tell us about historical Jewish trauma, Israeli identity, and national cinema.
