Filmmaker Asaf Galay (The Muses of Bashevis Singer, TJFF2015) examines the life and work of Polish-Jewish photographer Julia Pirotte who achieved belated recognition for her images of French and Polish Resistance fighters during World War II. Using Pirotte’s Yiddish testimony from the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies, the film follows two photographers, Avishag Shaar-Yashuv and Irene Pletka, as they trace her journey, and the sites she photographed, through Poland and France.
