Description

In the summer of 1939, the German luxury liner St. Louis sailed from Hamburg to Cuba, carrying 937 Jewish refugees. When the ship was denied harbour in Cuba, America and Canada, it wandered the seas for thirty excruciating days until the passengers were granted haven by four European countries. When the war began shortly after, many of the refugees found themselves once again in Nazi-occupied territory. “This definitive documentary” (National Centre for Jewish Film) recounts the infamous journey of the St. Louis through interviews with passengers who made the crossing as children and in readings from the diary of the ship’s captain.
