Description
Nominated for nine Ophir awards, and winner of best screenplay. Following the success of her award-winning screenplay for Working Woman (TJFF 2019), Michal Vinik proves equally adept in the director’s chair in this taut chamber piece. Content with her marriage of convenience to an Israeli, Ukrainian immigrant Christina convinces her younger sister to follow in her footsteps as a mail-order bride. Initially excited by the prospect, Valeria is seized with doubt when she meets her prospective husband. Without eschewing the intrinsically problematic nature of transactional marriages, Vinik’s film is notable for its empathy towards both the men and women who resort to them.
