An exquisitely-crafted, superbly-performed film that was Hungary’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature. Set in post-war Hungary, Those Who Remained is an achingly beautiful period film about the healing power of love amidst grief and trauma. Having lost his wife and child in concentration camps, middle-aged Aldo lives a solitary life working as a doctor. When he meets Klara, a 16-year old girl whose family was murdered by the Nazis, they form a father-daughter connection that helps them heal. However, as the Stalinist threat takes shape in Hungary, the innocence of their relationship is called into question.
