Description
The classic Canadian film adaptation of Gabrielle Roy’s prize-winning and best-selling classic novel. Marilyn Lighstone plays the mother of the Lacasses, a struggling French-Canadian family living in the working class neighbourhood of St Henri in Montreal during the Second World War. The film centres on the eldest daughter who is left pregnant after falling for an ambitious young man, who then tries to cast her off on one of his friends. This love triangle is set against against the Lacasse family’s descent into poverty. Upon the film's premiere at the Moscow Film Festival, Lightstone won an Award of Merit for her performance.
