Description
Sasson Gabay Carte Blanche Selection
Actor Sasson Gabay presents this adaptation of Eli Amar’s novel, while reflecting on his own Iraqi roots.
“A nostalgic yearning for their country of origin,” (Ha’aretz) this film tells the dramatic story of the ancient Baghdadi Jewish community and the tumultuous events that led to their upheaval from their beloved city. Director Nissim Dayan brilliantly tells the story of Kabi (Daniel Gad) who unexpectedly gets thrust into the Zionist underground, helping to ready the community for its exodus. As pressure from the Iraqi and Israeli governments make life in Baghdad more and more unbearable, Kabi and everyone he holds dear are forced to say farewell to the only life they ever knew.
Part of the series, Artist in Residence: Sasson Gabay sponsored by Kultura Collective, with contributing support from Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation.
