Description

Stefan Zweig is one of the most read German-language writers of his time (his stories later inspired Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel). Known for her performances in Aimee and Jaguar and In Darkness, filmmaker Maria Schrader goes behind the camera and offers a quietly stunning film recounting Jewish-Austrian writer Zweig’s final years in exile from the Nazi regime. Moving between Rio de Janeiro, New York and Petrópolis, Zweig struggles to find a new home in the world. “Schrader’s film isn’t only about the literary icon but at least as much about evoking what’s happening offscreen in Zweig’s beloved Europe, which is going up in flames.” (Hollywood Reporter)
