Description

This Oscar-nominated classic of British-Jewish cinema shines a rare spotlight on the little known Welsh Jewish community—perhaps the only time you will hear Welsh and Yiddish spoken in the same film. Ravishingly-shot and directed, this touching and memorable love story focuses on two young people—one Jewish, one Christian—who risk their families' wrath when they begin a love affair in 1919 Wales. Solomon (Ioan Gruffudd from Fantastic Four, King Arthur), who's hidden his Judaism from his lover, is rebelling against his Orthodox heritage while Gaenor (Nia Roberts, The Crown) wants to escape her stifling family life. With a miner's strike looming in the background, tensions and prejudices come to the surface, threatening the lovers' happiness.
