Description

Peter Finch plays Johnny Byrne, an aging, self-interested Labour MP who, when overlooked for a cabinet position, gets distracted by his pursuit of a young model. Although the story is based on a bestselling memoir by Labour MP Wilfred Fienburgh, the character of Johnny Byrne—an ambitious social climber from working class roots—is no stranger to the world of Mordecai Richler, who wrote the first draft of the adaptation. In addition to being a sharp character study and compelling political drama, No Love for Johnnie offers an insider look at the workings of the Labour party and the British parliamentary system. Featuring a stellar supporting cast that includes Stanley Holloway, Mary Peach, Donald Pleasence and Billie Whitelaw.
