Description

Official Selection, Tribeca Film Festival

Decades before #MeToo, Andrea Dworkin denounced the pervasiveness of sexism and its impact on the everyday lives of women. Filmmaker Pratibha Parmar explores the life and legacy of the iconic feminist, from her suburban New Jersey childhood to her adult years as a feminist scholar and social activist. Deftly blending archival footage and dramatic vignettes—featuring Amandla Stenberg, Soko, Andrea Riseborough, and Ashley Judd—the film connects Dworkin’s concerns about class, race and gender to the present. The result is a thought provoking evaluation of a brilliant, often polarizing iconoclastic feminist. “Parmar etches a sympathetic profile that acknowledges the complexity and divisiveness of her subject.” (Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter)

My Name is Andrea skillfully takes us on a tour of Dworkin’s life, writings, and activism, in a way that humanizes her and reveals what a force she was, and how relevant her life work continues to be today.”
