Description

In this second CBC adaptation of writer Howard Engel’s detective series, followng The Suicide Murders, Saul Rubinek is back as Benny Cooperman. This time, he is in Algonquin Park, following a wealthy American evangelist (Kenneth Welsh), who is hiding from the US authorities. However, among the community of residents in the park, Cooperman stumbles across two seemingly-unrelated murders. This second production also boasts a top-notch supporting cast that includes Welsh, Janet-Laine Green, Joan Orenstein, Kate Lynch, Graham Greene and Don Lake. “Private detective Benny Cooperman (Saul Rubinek) is perhaps the closest we’ve come to the genius of Peter Falk’s Columbo, and when the character works there is an easy, reassuring charm about him that is characteristically Canadian.” (John Haslett Cuff, The Globe and Mail)
