Fans of John Hughes films will delight in this throwback to the 1980s when permed hair, acid wash jeans, and hanging at the mall were the hallmarks of adolescent life. When her family is chosen to host a gorgeous Spanish exchange student, Julie Gornick (Toronto’s own Anna Mirodin) is instantly smitten. On the advice of her best friend, Julie insinuates herself into the popular group, most of whom have already been seduced by Juan’s charms. Can she compete to win his affection? Based on the screenwriter Susan Gomes’ own high school experiences, the film is an authentic depiction of being a teenager in the 1980s and features an awesome soundtrack.
