A hit at Sundance, Kirill Mikhanovsky’s anarchic comedy draws from his own experience as a Russian immigrant who drove a medical transport vehicle in Milwaukee for people with disabilities. His fictional alter ego, Vic, lives with his grandfather and reluctantly agrees to drive him and a group of neighbours to a friend’s funeral, but only after Vic transports his designated passengers. Chaos ensues when a local protest shuts down the roads and Vic must balance the demands of a group of kvetching elderly Russians with his special-needs clients, many of whom are impoverished African-Americans. A wildly funny representation of Russian-Jewish and African-American life in the Midwest.
