Description

Official selection, the Panorama Section of the Berlin Film Festival

Upwardly mobile and outwardly liberal, Ben and Raz buy a flat in an area of South Tel Aviv that is being gentrified. When a dispute over a tree that he planted outside his house escalates, Ben calls the police to report the Eritrean immigrant with whom he is fighting. The arrest quickly turns fatal, and Ben is forced to confront his unconscious bias. Smartly crafted with satirical undertones, Concerned Citizen is a sharp parable about the mechanisms of gentrification and the ways in which privilege can unleash prejudices within. Filmmaker Idan Haguel has created one of the most intelligent Israeli dramas of recent years.
