Description

A rare screening of the CBC live TV production of Mordecai Richler’s first novel. Andre (Les Lawrence) is a young Canadian artist living in Valencia, Spain just after World War II. He spends his time there painting and drinking in a nightclub as he gets to know its regular patrons. The radiant Hildegard Rossi is Toni, the Spanish girl he loves, who spurns the advances of Roger Kraus, an ex-Nazi en route to South America. A window into a nearly-forgotten era of Canadian television, this production is also a chance to rediscover wonderful actors such as E.M. Margolese, who plays the rootless Chaim, the Jewish nightclub owner.
