French auteur and screenwriter Pascal Bonitzer (perhaps best known for having written many of the films by Jacques Rivette) presents a sharply-observed drama exploring the tangled web of reclaiming art looted by the Nazis. André Masson, a Parisian commissioner working for a famous auction house receives a call about a mystery painting of Egon Schiele, claiming the painting is in the possession of a young blue collar worker in the suburbs of Mulhouse. Believing it to be a hoax, Masson nevertheless heads north and discovers that the painting is, in fact, a Schiele masterpiece that disappeared in 1939. While this discovery could launch his career, it sets in motion a chain of events that could also seriously jeopardize it.
