Description

Their motto is “more is more, less is a bore.” Equal parts Abba, disco and camp, the Swedish international pop group sensation, Army of Lovers, is the subject of this rollicking, upbeat documentary. Thirty years after their debut, front man Jean-Pierre Barda feels the pull of his Jewish roots and decides to move to Israel. Through his story, director Asaf Galay (The Muses of Bashevis Singer) charts the band’s rise to fame and how Barda’s move prompted the band’s first concert in Israel. Flamboyant, philosophical and religious all at once, Barda is always compelling to watch.

Programmer Pick: This is a film that you don’t expect to see at a Jewish film festival. It’s a lot of fun with terrific characters and music, and you’re just going to have a great time. So don’t forget to watch it. (Helen Zukerman)
