Description

In a working-class Parisian suburb, the synagogue is closing, the kosher grocer along with it, as Bellisha, a naive 27-year-old, shares an apartment there with his agoraphobic mother Giselle (Agnès Jaoui). His mom thinks it is time to go, but Bellisha feels that this cramped, quarrelsome suburb is exactly where he wants to be, so he shields his reclusive mom from the reality that their local Jewish community is largely abandoning the area in the face of increasing antisemitism. Screenwriter Noé Debré’s (HBO Max’s Reformed) feature directorial debut delights with a bittersweet, irreverent touch.
