Description
To honour this time of reflection, TJFF presents this special advance screening and discussion.
In Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, June Squibb (Nebraska, Thelma) vividly brings to life the witty and proudly-troublesome 94-year-old Floridian Eleanor Morgenstein. After tragically losing her best friend and Holocaust survivor Bessie (Rita Zohar, Laura Adler’s Last Love Affair) Eleanor returns to her family in New York where she spins a tale that takes on a life of its own. What emerges is a comically poignant exploration of the themes of aging, family, loss and what constitutes deceit, as this story of friendship and history turns into a profound tale of complicated humanity. The cast of Eleanor the Great also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave, Love Actually), Jessica Hecht (Friends) and Erin Kellyman (Say Nothing, Solo: A Star Wars Story).
The September 17th screening will be followed by a discussion led by Rabbi Ilyse Glickman, the spiritual leader of The Danforth Jewish Circle in downtown Toronto.
