Description

Long before rock ‘n roll, 'Mambo' was a dance craze that spread like wildfire, thanks to young, hip, New York Jews captivated by its Latin beat. This upbeat documentary traces the history of the ‘Mambo,’ from its origins in 1940s Cuba, to Broadway, the Catskills and Florida. Featuring rare film footage and interviews with former ‘Mamboniks’--musicians, DJs, record producers, nightclub owners, and dancers like Michael Terrace (the model for Patrick Swayze’s character in Dirty Dancing)--who are still moved by mambo rhythms.
