Description

Sefarad is a fitting tribute to an important figure in modern Portuguese Jewish history. This visually-lush historical drama recounts the story of army captain Barros Basto, a convert to Judaism who established the Jewish community of Oporto, Portugal, in the first half of the 20th century, 400 years after the expulsion of the Jews. Hoping to bring the Marranos (crypto-Jews who had undergone forced conversions) back into the open, he founded a seminary and built the largest synagogue in the Iberian Peninsula.
